Africa

It's the day before I go to Africa and I have had an awful week. I got a call on Wednesday while on prac to say my grandpa only had a few hours left to live. So me and my brothers went to the hospital and were there for 8 hours watching him dying. He died at 1am the next morning. Ever since then I have been pretty shaken up and felt sick. I didn't know what to do and was scared of going to Africa feeling like this.

Two days later I came into my room and decided I would just put on a cd and sing my heart out to God. I said to him, "I have no strength left; I feel sick and shaken and scared. God I am completely depending on you for all the strength and peace that I need. From now on I'm walking in your strength." And I started to worship him singing about who he is; a God of love, strength, peace and power. More powerful than my fears.

Something really powerful happened; God took away my sickness and filled me with so much peace. I began to see things in perspective. I love it when you realize over and over again what an amazing God he is and how he is incredibly involved in our lives, caring about every little thing. He gave me a few bible verses to hold onto while I'm in Africa:

Isaiah 41:10- So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

John 16:33-I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Psalm 18:32-It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.

So I am going to Nairobi tomorrow to visit Mercy Care Centre School, a slum school in Nairobi that is bringing hope to hundreds of children living in extreme poverty, violence, abuse and despair. I know God is going to be with me every minute of every day and I can completely rely on him for all the strength and the peace I need. Thank you SO much to everyone who sent me messages, emails, rang me, picked me up etc. I have amazing friends! I will update this blog daily so you can follow my trip and post comments. I will try and upload pictures too.

I'll be doing a lot of filming as I'm making a documentary of the school. I'm also teaching dance and helping out in whatever way possible. These kids have seen so much violence and death recently; I can't wait to be with them and love them.
Write me posts while I'm away!! :)) I'll try and write back :)
